There's always something to Celebrate!
There’s still gold tucked away up there in them thar hills, and you’re sure to find fool’s gold in the area’s lakes and rivers… but gold is a relative term these days, and one can find it ’round nearly every corner. Just last month, in fact, the prospect of a golden ticket worth a million dollars was dangling precariously close to several of Sacramento’s visitors.
Ten lucky meeting professionals were chosen to be contestants in Sacramento’s annual Discover Gold Sweepstakes at the Sacramento Convention Center, where each of the finalists received 20 “envelopes,” with three of the envelopes containing the words “Sacramento,” “Discover” and “Gold.” The contestants were then asked to select three envelopes; if someone’s envelopes contained the three winning words… Hello, one million dollars!
Steve Hammond, President and CEO of the SCVB, said, “The contest has proved to be a great ice breaker with people who, in many cases, didn’t know much about Sacramento and are now interested in bringing a group to the area. This promotion has been a great venture for us as the contacts that we’ve generated have allowed us to bring significant new business to this community.”
Hundreds of people watched with bated breath to see if one of these “professional” visitors had won the million dollar prize… But no cigar this year. The silver lining, however, is that they did discover the wonders of Sacramento itself.
