Sushi: Brave New World

In the early 90s, sushi was not something I ever ate and a little Japanese restaurant tucked away in a strip mall on Hazel Avenue was not expected for fame. But by the time a friend of mine introduced me to a little spicy, crunchy, gewy, heavenly roll in the mid 90s, this sushi restaurant was already bursting at the seams.

Mikuni Sushi now has multiple locations in the Sacramento area, including one at Northstar Tahoe. So needless to say, this little sushi restaurant that hoped it could, has done quite well for itself with stellar reviews, a widespread reputation and fresh food that makes one ‘see the light’ of all raw fish can be.

Some people simply love the delicacy of tender, mild raw fish; Others like me are converted to sushi with just one mouthful of a perfectly balanced specialty roll. I’m pretty sure if you click on Mikuni’s website, your mouth will start to water and your brain to wonder what the fuss is all about. To be fair, however, Sacramento has a number of deliciously dynamic Japanese restaurants that make it extra fun to not be afraid of things we don’t always initially understand.
